Is Your Dog Overdue For A Grooming?

Is Your Dog Overdue For A Grooming?

Sometimes life just gets in the way, and our pouches end up getting the short end of the stick. Of course, we love our dogs, and we want to provide them with the best care but, between running the kids from place to place, school, work, and a multitude of other things, we think that the dog's bath is the least of our priorities. That is the best part about using a professional groomer, all you have to do is drop them off and pick them up, and the work is all done for you. The groomer makes sure they are well taken care of which takes the time and stress off of you. It is also imperative to get your dog groomed because grooming is so much more than just bathing and hair cutting. They also perform necessary hygienic practices that you may not be able to do at home such as nail trimmings and anal gland release.

Your Dogs Need Pampering Too

Often we go to the hair salon, or the nail salon, or get a massage but we may not consider that our fur babies like to be pampered too. They enjoy to be clean and well groomed and to be treated special by a stranger sometimes also. They enjoyed being fussed over and told how cute they are and being pampered on a level that they probably don’t get at home. If you have ever picked your dog up from a groomer than you have probably experienced firsthand how excited they are and how happy they seem to be when you come to get them. Yes, they have probably missed you and are excited in part because they finally get to see you again, but it also because they feel so much better after professional grooming. They are happier and healthier.

Aging Dogs Need Grooming Too

Aging Dogs Need Grooming Too

Aging is a sad part of life whether we are talking about ourselves or our pets. Pets tend to age in the same way that we do in that aging comes with a plethora of health problems, medications, and the occasional grouchiness. Sometimes as our dog's age, they become grouchy, stubborn, and short tempered. It is difficult to watch our dog's age especially if we have had them since they were puppies. Older dogs require more patience, love, and care. This is why it may be difficult to find a good groomer for an elderly dog. They may not be as easy or pleasurable to groom as a younger dog. This is why it is essential to find a good groomer who will take their time and be patient with your older dog and be able to put your dog at ease while grooming. Older dogs tend to be more anxious and get upset easier especially when they are out of their element. A kind groomer can go a long way in easing your dog's anxiety while they are being groomed. The grooming experience for an older dog does not have to be a bad one. It should be a pleasurable experience that they look forward to each time they walked through the groomers doors. Even if your dog is grouchy and snippy, the groomer should be able to perform all the tasks that entail the grooming process efficiently. It just may take a little longer with an older dog. This is why you should look for a groomer that is perfectly happy to groom your dog even though they are aware that they may present a little bit more of a challenge.

Animal Abuse At Professional Grooming Facilities

Animal Abuse At Professional Grooming Facilities

I was reading an article earlier today that was just absolutely heartbreaking. A man took his dog, an English bulldog, to a groomer at a nationally recognized pet store, and went to go pick him up and immediately realized that he had been abused. His eyes were utterly bloodshot like he had been strangled. He did not look like this when the owner dropped him off a few hours prior. He immediately took his dog to the in-house vet where they did not really seem to care about his injuries. They were more apt to shift the blame onto causes that did not discredit their grooming services. So, the man set up an appointment with a non-biased vet to seek a second opinion. The vet first ran tests to make sure that the cause of the bloodshot eyes was not anything to do with any type of medical issue the dog may have had. When those results come back negative, the vet concluded that the dog was probably forcibly restrained and maybe the restraint around his neck was way too tight.
Apparently, the owner was angered by the abuse his dog suffered at the groomer, so he decided to seek legal help. He wanted to make sure that nothing like this happened to anyone else’s dog when they went to this particular groomer. Although the attorney was very kind, understanding, and sympathetic, she was honest in saying that not much could be done legally due to the laws of their state. The state actually views a dog as property such as a television or car, so their value is not recognized on a level that would warrant a lawsuit for abuse. This was not the answer the owner was looking for. However, he has taken to social media and other outlets to make pet owners aware of the abuse that sometimes occurs at the hands of dog groomers.

Why You Should Not Travel with Your Dog on a Plane

Why You Should Not Travel with Your Dog on a Plane

Many of us find it difficult to be separated from our dogs for long periods of time. Maybe we are taking a trip overseas will be spending a week in Italy for two weeks in Ireland. Although this may seem like a long time to be separated from your dog, it may be in your dog’s best interest that you not take them with you. Now, if you can afford an extra plane ticket so that your dog can ride in the cabin with you that it may not be such a bad idea to have him as your traveling companion. But if you are planning on having him crated and stored in the cargo area of the plane, it is highly advisable that you not take him with you. Many of the animals that are crated and travel underneath the plane are not treated very well by the loading staff. They are often times mean and uncaring to the animals. It is also hard for dogs to travel in the cargo area because it is loud and crowded and many animals may become overheated. Many dogs get very nervous, and it puts a lot of unnecessary stress on them. It is not a pleasant experience for dogs to ride in that part of the plane.

What Is The Best Option If I Do Not Want To Travel With My Dog?

The best option for your dog if you do not want to travel with them is to board them. There are many options for boarding, but it is important to find a place that you are comfortable leaving your dog for a week or two. You want somewhere they will be free to run and play and socialize instead of being locked up in a kennel for the majority of their stay. They need to be cared for the way you care for them when you are home. You need to board them somewhere that you feel is a safe and happy place so that you do not spend your vacation worrying about their wellbeing.

Is Your Dog a Part of the Family, Not Just an Animal Companion?

Is Your Dog a Part of the Family, Not Just an Animal Companion?

So many of us love our pets as if they were our own children. Maybe we can’t have children of our own, or perhaps we are just huge dog lovers that cannot imagine treating our dogs any other way. Whatever the reason, they are a part of our family, not just an animal companion. They are obedient and love us no matter what even after being punished for things like eating our shoes, peeing on the floor, digging up our flowers, or chewing on the coffee table. These are all small things compared to the love and affection we receive from our dogs. And the best part is that they don’t talk back when they get in trouble. Often times non-dog lovers have a hard time understanding the humanlike way that we dog lovers treat our dogs. But there are few things as rewarding as being a dog lover. They sense when we’re sad or upset or even lonely, and they come to offer their loving companionship. They also share in our excitement when we are happy. All of these reasons are why we treat our dogs as a part of the family instead of an animal.

How Do You Choose A Groomer?

For those of us who want only what’s best for our dogs, we typically send them to a groomer on a regular basis. There are many benefits to a groomer because they not only give our dogs haircuts and make them look nice, but they trim the nails, clean out the years, press the glands and do many other things that are vital to our dog’s health and well-being. This is why it is so important to choose a groomer with a good reputation, and that is kind and caring towards our dogs. Your dog should never shy away from the groomer when you take them. They should be excited because they know that they were about to be pampered. Going to a groomer should be a good experience for our dogs.
