Do You Own a Maltese

Do You Own a Maltese

Maltese’s are very much a pleasure to have. They are very well mannered, small thus nondestructive, and excellent service watchdogs. Of course, if you have a Maltese, you’ve probably looked the history up on these beautiful animals. Mold pieces actually come from the island of Malta. Their role was to serve as the Royal watchdogs for the king of Malta. It’s easy to see why these dogs were chosen to be the world watchdogs for the king of Malta. First, they’re very good watchdogs, they will bark at anything that goes bump in the night. They’re also very majestic looking with their long white hair. That’s part of the appeal, there are little white mild tempered dogs. With that being said, however, they do require some grooming.

Grooming Your Maltese

If you own a Maltese, you also understand perfectly well how much trouble they are to keep groomed. The interesting thing about Maltese’s is that they don’t shed out they shed in. This is actually pretty nice because you don’t have forgotten dog hair everywhere. The downside of this, however, is that it essentially makes a coat around them. So in our hot Texas summers can be murder on the dog. For this reason, you have to constantly and continuously brush the Maltese out. So you will spend hours brushing your Maltese to get that hair up, so they are able to stay cool during the summer. Also, if your Maltese has long hair, then it constantly gets dirty. This, of course, is no good. So it is clear that Maltese’s do require a fair amount of grooming. You just can’t trust your Maltese to anyone. You have to make sure that you take your Maltese to a groomer that is experienced and knows what they are doing.

Is Your Fur Baby in Need of a Pampered Day?

Is Your Fur Baby in Need of a Pampered Day?

This may seem strange to some people especially if they are not dog lovers, however, for those of us who treat our dogs like our kids, making sure that they are healthy happy and well- groomed are top priorities. Why is this considered so weird? We pamper ourselves, right? We go to the salon to have her hair done, we have our fingernails done, we even get our toenails done, and go get full body massages, etc., all of which make us look and feel our best. So, why do we have to justify doing this for our dogs whom we love and care for? Grooming is so much more than just haircuts and nail trims. It promotes a happy, healthy dog. Groomers perform tasks that are not necessarily able to be done at home for your dog. I can guarantee that most of us are not cleaning out our dog’s ears and releasing their anal glands, yes, this is as grotesque as it sounds, however, is a necessary part of keeping our dogs healthy especially if they are small dogs.
Many larger breeds don’t have the same issues as smaller breeds because they are able to release their own angle glands just by sitting down. Their weight helps them to self- release, which is not the case for small dogs. These are definitely things that we don’t really think about as dog owners. We think that their health and well-being are issues for the veterinarian. But the reality is, that if we take care of our dogs and take them to the groomer, often groomers can prevent medical issues. Therefore, a veterinarian may not even be needed. For example, I have a Maltese, and his hair grows very quickly. Unfortunately, he also has hair inside his ears which continues to grow very quickly as well, so any moisture that gets into his ears typically gets trapped, so the poor little guy is prone to ear infections which then requires a trip to the vet. With regular grooming, the hair is actually cleaned out of his ears. Therefore they can drain properly, and he is much less prone to ear infections.

Have You Recently Adopted a New Dog From the Shelter?

Have You Recently Adopted a New Dog From the Shelter?

It is very common nowadays for people to adopt dogs from shelters rather than buy from a breeder. This is because there are so many dogs that need homes before they are put down in the shelter. Euthanizing dogs in these shelters seems so cruel, but they don’t always have a choice. Dogs need food, water, shelter, medical care, etc., and all of these things cost money that shelters cannot always afford to fork out for extended periods of time. It is sad, but this is the reality. Shelters do, however, try very hard to get people to adopt these dogs before they wear out their welcome, in a manner of speaking, and have to be put down. Social media is a very useful tool in raising awareness of all the dogs that need forever homes and encouraging adoption over buying from a breeder. The only issue that some people have is that sometimes their adoptive dogs have suffered some form abuse at the hands of their previous owners so they may be scared, timid, shy, or cower to human touch. These types of dogs require patience, kindness, and understanding, not to mention, a lot of love. Social interaction is also very important for dogs like this so that they can try to overcome their fears with interaction.

What is the Best Way to Socially Interact My Anti-Social Dog?

Doggy daycare is a wonderful way for your dog to interact not only with new people but also new dogs. It gives them the opportunity to make new friends and learn how to behave around other dogs. They will be able to see how other dogs act which will help to give your dog the confidence he needs to open up and become more socially active. Doggy daycare helps to heal your dog emotionally and mentally.
